Who we are

BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be.We are committed to being there for children across the UK when they need us the most. Together with the BBC and our partners, we inspire the nation to support this work.

What do we fund?

BBC Children in Need is here to make sure that every child has the childhood they deserve – and the support they need to thrive.

We are committed to funding the grassroots organisations and project workers across the UK that provide the vital positive relationships children need to help them navigate the challenges in their lives. Our project workers support, inspire and champion them to ensure they have opportunities and can reach their goals. And that will always be our approach.

We fund thousands of charities and projects in every corner of the UK, that support children and young people to feel and be safer, have improved mental health and wellbeing, form better, more positive relationships and be given more equal opportunities to flourish.

How do we raise money?

At BBC Children in Need, we raise funds to make sure we can be there for children and young people by funding thousands of local charities and projects.

Our SPOTacular annual appeal in November inspires our communities across the UK to come together, raise funds and show support.

There are plenty of ways to go the extra mile for BBC Children in Need. Supporters take on SPOTacular walkathons and sponsored cycles, host bake sales, and a whole lot more!

Our November appeal wouldn’t be complete without our big night of television on the BBC, featuring famous faces, SPOTacular programmes, and reports from children and young people whose lives have been changed thanks to your support.

BBC Children in Need

Children in Need fund people and organisations that:
Work in the heart of their communities, particularly in times of crisis.Put children and young people at the centre of everything they do, from design to delivery.Address the challenges the children and young people face, build their skills and resilience, empower them and extend their choices in life.Be keen to keep learning about their work so that their ability to make a difference in children and young people’s lives can keep on improving.

Active Kent & Medway

Apply for: No Min - £500

Active Kent and Medway, in partnership with Kent Trust for Youth Sport, is able to provide funding for any club or organisation, looking to encourage and increase participation in physical activity for those living in Kent or Medway (excluding London Boroughs).
Funding could be available for projects such as new programmes, festivals, events, launches or celebrations of activity, that re-engage with their previous audience and/or encourage those new to activity to continue to be active.

The Henry Smith Charity

Apply for: £500 - £70,000

Grants for small and medium sized organisations in the UK to support projects and the running costs of organisations.
The Henry Smith Charity is an independent grant making trust. We aim to use our resources to help people and communities at a time of need and to bring about positive change.
Our Grant Funding Strategy includes our values and principles as an organisation and funding priorities for our two largest grant programmes Improving Lives and Strengthening Communities.
